Placido Polanco Appears to be Done for the Season

Man does this hurt and I was pretty stunned when I heard about it after the game yesterday.  So get used to Neifi Perez because he might be playing come October.  I’m hoping Will Carroll will mention something about this in his Under the Knife.

Apparantly it came from Polanco himself. Dan Dickerson and Jim Price were talking about it after yesterday’s game.

Wonderful. Well, in that case, how long is Perez’s contract? Is there a possibility he’ll be moved in the off-season?

The gem that is known as Neifi Perez is signed through 2007 so you get to see those batting skills all next year!

I knew that P2 said this, but I also saw this at MLB.com:

“Dombrowski said that Polanco is on schedule to hopefully take batting practice as soon as Monday in Chicago prior to the Tigers’ opener against the White Sox. The second baseman had an injection on Saturday for the shoulder, which prevented him from taking batting practice on Sunday and could keep him shut down for another day.

“If he was out for the year, we would [say that],” Dombrowski said. ”

Admittidly, it wouldn’t be the first time a MLB exec lied to the press, but I guess it wouldn’t shock me if P2 was just depressed and said whatever was on his mind.
FWIW, I think the only way the Neifinator gets moved is if it involves the letters “D.F.A.”.

More from P2 in the MLB article:

It’s a different story from what Polanco said during the afternoon. Asked about his shoulder after Sunday’s 12-8 loss to the Orioles, he told reporters, “I’m out for the rest of the year and maybe Spring Training [next year].”

He repeated the statement to other reporters on his way out of the clubhouse, though he did not elaborate as to why he felt he would be out.

Freep.com now reporting that he plans to play by this weekend. . .

“Placido Polanco said Monday that he hopes to play by this weekend in Kansas City.

The Tigers second baseman said he spoke out of frustration when he declared himself out for the season Sunday.”
