Edwin Jackson Picks Up Seventh Win With Seven Solid Frames
.!.

It’s hard to say that any Tiger has been more consistent then Edwin Jackson.  Even more so then Justin Verlander.  The last time he gave up more then three runs was back on May 26 and two of those were unearned.  And only twice has he given up more then four in a start and both of those were way back in the earlier parts of the season.  Only once has his ERA popped above 3.00 and only once has he given up more then seven hits.  Even his walk rate has been a considerable improvement over the past couple of years.

Tonight, he outdueled Cliff Lee to pick up his seventh win.  He gave up just a run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innings.  Bobby Seay pitched a shutout eighth and he got out of a jam and while Fernando Rodney loaded up the bases (two walks and an error), he pitched out of it and got Grady Sizemore to ground out to third base.

Marcus Thames belted a big two run homer in the eighth and while those runs weren’t needed, they might have had Rodney not gotten out of that ninth inning jam.  Josh Anderson drove in a pair with and Gerald Laird doubled, drove in a run and scored.

The White Sox are losing to the Twins but it’s a one run game.  Still at least one of those two teams are going to lose ground.  Tomorrow. it’ll be Carl Pavano going up against Armando Galarraga.

Also, congratulations to Brandon Inge for getting voted into the All Star game.  He was definitely deserving and he’ll even play in the All Star game.  What was interesting was former Tiger Carlos Pena didn’t get the nod and he’ll be the first person since Mickey Tettleton (who was a Tiger at the time) to not make the All Star Game while leading the league in home runs.  Tettleton had 24 home runs in the first half in 1993.

More good news.  Carlos Guillen is supposed to start a rehab assignment over the weekend.  I haven’t found out where he’s ended up but the speculation was with Toledo at least to start.  It’ll be interesting to see how he comes along.
