No Love For the Tigers at Baseball Prospectus

Baseball Prospectus put out their version of the power rankings today (called the Hit List) and despite the 6-3 start, the Tigers came in at fifteenth.  Only the Cardinals finished lower then the Tigers and still had a winning record.  The Indians came in at second place and the Twins also finished ahead of the Tigers at thirteen.  Two spots down are the White Sox at seventeen.

This isn’t too surprising since I think their rankings are based mostly on your Pythagorean record.

That, and I think third level wins and losses, which tries to take the home/away and the opposing pitching into consideration. In any case, 15 is exactly what I thought they’d come up with. Ranking is never as interesting as the words that go with it.

They’re squeaking by so far. The record is deceptive, and they’ll have to pick it up if they want to contend. That being said, I think they’re probably better than the 15th best team in the majors. Maybe 10th?
