Quick Hits: Tom Gage's Top Ten Tigers Spring Training Stories

Tom Gage gave a run down on what he thinks the top ten spring training stories will be as we get closer to pitchers and catchers reporting.  His number one is Austin Jackson and that will go out the window if the Tigers sign Johnny Damon.  I think Scott Sizemore and Jeremy Bonderman will matter more in the end as to how the Tigers come out of the spring season then Jackson will, with or without Damon.

Why do you think signing Damon would impact Austin Jackson. Nobody in their right mind would let Damon play center at this stage of his career. Damon would be signed for the corner OF/DH rotation with Ordonea, Guillen and Raburn. The only way more playing time for Damon would come at Jackson’s expense, is if it leads to Raburn getting a bunch of starts at CF.

Namely, signing Damon would take up a roster spot and Jackson isn’t a lock to play with the Tigers out of spring training this year. My guess would be Damon starts in left and then Raburn would get more starts out in center. Clete Thomas is also still around so he could factor in as well.
