Placido Polanco Drives In Four In Tigers Win

The Tigers snapped their three game winning streak last night in a game that saw Justin Verlander struggle at times but still, he struck out eleven guys.  He loaded up the bases in the second and David DeJesus cleared them with a double and while that lead was shortlived, it wasn’t until the fifth inning when the Tigers scored four that they took the lead back.  Still, it was good for his ninth win despite the fact that Verlander’s ERA has gone up in each of his last three starts.

Joel Zumaya got a chance to redeem himself and he got out of a big jam in the eighth inning.  Ditto for Fernando Rodney, who shut out the Royals in the ninth for his eighteenth save of the season.  In all, Tiger pitching racked up fifteen strikeouts.
